Connecting the dots (and the riders), one ride at a time.

rideFinder lets you find riders you might like to ride with, and routes you can follow safely, using the valuable knowledge contributed by lots of other people.

Our database is growing, but we'd love your participation. Will you share?.

GutterMonkey v1.1

Posted by boof at Mon 17 Sep '07 @ 9:37pm

A huge thanks goes out to the hundreds of people who've supplied routes to the rideFinder database so far. We'll be working the next few weeks to feature some of these in more detail. In the mean time, please enjoy the selection that turn up randomly in the navBar on the right hand side.

The rideFinder database now has rides from Sydney, Melbourne, London, San Francisco, Tokyo, Melbourne, Brisbane and ... Dubbo!. Check out the rideFinder page for more. No place is too big or too small for gutterMonkey. It's all about people. So where ever there are people, we'd like to help.

rideRadar

This latest release of the gutterMonkey.org code also includes a new feature called rideRadar, which will let you watch the gutterMonkey database by email - you setup a rideRadar for an area or route you're interested in, and rideRadar will shoot you an email when someone enters a route that matches your criteria.

We're putting in more features all the time, as well as fixing bugs. We love hearing about bugs ... well, we hate them, but we hate them more when they go unreported. So if you see bugs in anything on the site, please let us know.

Look and feel

We've also made a bunch of changes to the site to make it easier to read and see. Please let us know if these have worked by shooting us some feedback comments using our contact page. We've heard your comments so far and you'll be happy to know that we've tried to code as may changes into the site to reflect your feedback. In any case, it's always nice to hear from everyone.

You Rock!

Finally, thanks to everyone who's helped make gutterMonkey.org a huge success so far. We want to get millions of new cyclists on the road all around the world, and we can't do that without help from all our friends out there in the cycling community.

Your willingness to share your knowledge and experience with others is priceless. Please let us know if there's anything we can do to make it easier for you to help others get on their bikes. There's not much we won't do :-)

Nice people share ...

Guttermonkey.org is a new service, and we need all the riders we can find to put their daily rides into our rideFinder database, so we can share this with other commuters out there, as soon as possible.

You can put your own routes in for other people to find and they can choose to contact you about the rideif they're interested, or they can just get together as an ad hoc group to go solo on your route.

Either way, your ride info is incredibly helpful to other people, you know your regular route better than anyone else, and every little extra tid bit helps someone by smoothing the ride for them. Yes please! Get me involved in this awesome sanity!

The program to start recruiting 'route donors' has started. The poster attached is going to be used to try and attract people to enter their routes, in preparation for the launch to the general public soon.

Please let us know if you have any thoughts on this poster....

Beta testing continues

I (boof) just got back from the US, and I've spent some useful time on planes working on the codebase. Who needs sleep when there are 13 lovely hours uninterrupted by phone calls, emails or instant messages?

More bugs eradicated, and a few more features added to rideFinder. Have a look at the new look for rideFinder (thanks for the input, Dan), and have a peep at the "find others" / chat icon in a ride's detail page. The idea is to allow people to find other people who might want to ride with them.

I need feedback on this stuff soon, because I want to launch the site as soon as I get back from my next trip. That means:

Launching on Wed Aug 22.
